You’ll likely require a water trough for soaking the wallpaper before applying, a long straight edge and a sharp utility knife. Plus, you’ll also need a pair of scissors to cut down any minor faults, a roller to smoothen the pasted surface down the seams. If you have to undertake the job of pasting in case your wallpapers are not backed with pre used adhesive, you will require the basic equipments like a sponge to wipe off the excess paste and moisten dry areas.

Steps that are involved in wallpapering

Now that your walls are ready, you can start wallpapering. But, from where should you start? The best option would be to start from the centre and work your way as you move outwards. Before starting though, pick up the wallpaper and mark its edges starting from the centre and repeating until you have reached the end of it. This continuous process will help you find out whether the quantity of wallpaper is sufficient to fill the entire wall. And if you do notice a narrow strip of wallpaper left over, shift that much from the starting line.

Using a plumb bob or a spirit line, the vertical starting of the wall is required to be marked for smooth functioning. Now, cut the first wallpaper around 10cm longer than actually required. Now apply adhesive if you need to or immerse it in the water trough. Finally, stick the paper to wall from top to bottom. Make sure that your first wallpaper is exactly vertical as this will be setting the stage for subsequent wallpapers.

As you work your way forward, make sure the roller is used to smoothen the surface for clean finishing, before it dries up, also making sure that no bubbles are formed inside the wallpaper strips. The finishing touch is to be given by cutting out the top and bottom edge if required and smoothen it out.
